El Fashionista

Here are some pictures of the Changing Room last saturday, featuring designs and lovely details of El Colmillo de Morsa. Jordi Espino (creator of the brand along with Elisabet Vallecillo ) told us a bit more about the mood and some of the last summer edition’s highlights:

“In spite of the Sónar and the great weather, this edition was a good one, with nice company, grateful people, good music and better beer. The space and organization were perfect, so it is completely understandable that everything went just as planned! I would like to point out the work of some colleagues, like Paula Imminich‘s uncomplicated and well finished designs, Georgina Ordinas (always in black, but with some tones of gold and a country-like line), American Perez and Diana Dorado, with a great influence of Miu Miu patterns and her usual good deeds, and last but not least, the bisuterie of Alprès Ski, bellissimo!”

I love the quiet feeling and emphasis on detail of this brand, and the advance for the Summer collection 2011 looks quite promising!

Aquí algunas fotos del último Changing Room, mostrando diseños y preciosos detallles de El Colmillo de Morsa. Jordi Espino (creador de la marca junto a Elisabet Vallecillo nos cuenta un poco el ambiente de esta última edición y algunos destacados:

“Esta edición todo y el Sónar y el buen tiempo que hacia en la calle, no fue floja, como siempre buena compañía, gente agradecida, buena musica, buena cerveza, un espacio genial y una organización de lujo, normal que todo fuera rulado. Por destacar, destaco a Paula Immich (simplicidad, pero sabiendo hacer), Georgina Ordinas (el color negro por exelencia, pero aparecio tejidos de lino muy de campo y dorados), American Perez (en su linea) y Diana Dorado(descosidos, gran influencia en el patronaje de Miu Miu, muy buen hacer y gasas de lineas estampadas combinados con tejidos monocolor), en lo que a indumentaria se refiere, ya que este año domino la bisuteria, sobretodo la se Alprès Ski, es bellissimo!

Me encanta la sensación de tranquilidad que tienen las prendas de esta marca, y el avance de la colección verano 2011 promete mucho!

Me gustan mucho estas fotos arriba, porque me hacen pensar en otro tipo de verano, quizás no el típico de 40ºC de sol y playa! Las fotos son de Jennifer Cox que inaugura su primera exposición en Barcelona mañana en Espacio Infame. A las 20h. (añadí otras fotos que me recuerdan a ese estado tan agradable de siesta veraniega…)

Another spring in Barcelona, it’s time for the Sónar festival. But also this weekend it’s the summer edition of the Changing Room. On Saturday 19 June in the Hotel Chic & Basic there will be the special sale, in it’s rooms, of new and previous collections of independent designers like Diana Dorado, Cecilia Sörensen, Sulkawa or Sugar Rush. From 11 to 21h. Free entrance.

Save the date. On thursday 17 June at 21h there will be a very special fashion show at Barcelona’s Diagonal Metro station. Celebrating the 30 years of the ModaFAD, the following designers -that have been part of it in the last 15 years- will show their designs:

El jueves 17 de junio a las 21h habrá un show muy particular en la estación de metro Diagonal (intercambiador L3 y L5) del ModaFAD, celebrando los 30 años del evento, mostrando las colecciones de diseñadores que han sido parte de este clásico en los últimos 15 años de la moda independiente de la ciudad:

If you love shoes, you will love this brand. In the last presentation and special sale of Deux Souliers in Barcelona, there were great shoes, nice people and lots of creativity.

Three different styles to start: a pair of wedges, sandals and moccasins with an add-on detail to change a bit the mood of your outfit. All shoes are made by hand in Alicante, Spain (the spanish shoe paradise) using high quality leather and putting emphasis not only on the design, but also in how comfortable they are. There is also the option to design your own pair, choosing between different heels or colours.

Two women are behind all this, Paula and Nunu (both with a long history in fashion and shoe design) who decided to take the risk and jump to make their dream come true. We like it because the initiative is creative, is sustainable (this shoes will last much longer), is customizable, is personal, and is breath of fresh air in a moment of crisis.

Si te gustan los zapatos, te encantará esta marca. En la última presentación y venta especial de Deux Souliers, me encontré con zapatos preciosos, gente divertida y mucha creatividad.

Tres tipos diferentes de zapatos para empezar: plataformas, sandalias y mocasines con un detalle que se puede poner o quitar para cambiar el estilo. Todos están hechos a mano en Alicante (el paraíso español en el mundo del calzado) y utilizando materiales de primera calidad y poniendo énfasis no sólo en el diseño sino también en la comodidad. Existe la posibilidad de diseñar tu propio par, eligiendo el tipo de tacón, o punta por ejemplo.

Dos mujeres están detrás de este proyecto, Paula y Nunu (las dos con larga trayectoria en el mundo de la moda y el calzado) que decidieron tomar el riesgo y lanzarse a cumplir un sueño. Nos gusta porque es creativo, es sostenible (estos zapatos durarán muchísimo tiempo, es personal, es configurable y es una apuesta en un momento de crisis.

The perfect summer shoe. The espadrille is an ecological light shoe made with natural materials: vegetable fiber (hemp, jute, esparto…) for the sole and cotton, linen for the instep, it’s the classic catalan sandal. We love the twist that Miriam Ponsa did from them for this summer. In Barcelona, you can find it in La Manual Alpargatera, a shop that has now almost 70 years selling a good product. From 7 €

Perfectos para el verano. Este zapato clásico contiene materiales naturales para su composición y en Cataluña tiene su versión propia, con la sandalia catalana. Nos encantó la vuelta que le dió Miriam Ponsa para este verano. En Barcelona, puedes encontralas en la típica tienda La Manual Alpargatera, que desde hace mas de 70 años los vende en la calle Avinyó. Carolina Diez Cascón (1985) is a restless designer based in Barcelona. While in school, she worked in a local brand. She was also an intern for Jean Paul Gaultier and in 2006, she received the R+FAD prize, which allowed her to prepare an exhibition, showing off her experience in Paris in juxtaposition with the Barcelona style. It was called Barcelona Ohlalá. Her brand,  Factoria Rent Me showed it’s new collection in the last Pasarela Abierta Murcia. This time, the designs have a new touch with the colaboration of the american artist Tom Sanford (represented in New York by Leo Koenig Inc) and a critic to the actual loss of meaning and values, inspired most of all by Damien Hirst’s For the Love of God piece or the Olsen Twins phenomenon. I like the idea of introducing some real content into the shape. Aren’t we all getting a little bit tired of empty messages?

Carolina Diez Cascón (1985) es una diseñadora insaciable con base en Barcelona. Todavía en la escuela, trabajó para marcas locales. Trabajó como becaria para Jean Paul Gaultier y en el 2006 recibió el premio R+FAD para preparar una exhibición mostrando su experiencia en París en yuxtaposición con el “Estilo Barcelona”. Se llamó Barcelona Ohlalá. Su marca, Factoria Rent Me mostró su colección en la última Pasarela Abierta de Murcia. Esta vez, los diseños se impregnaron de un nuevo toque con los estampados del artista americano Tom Sanford (Leo Koenig Gallery, NY) y con la crítica a un mundo cada vez mas vacío de contenido. Un mundo carente de valores ni sentido, donde las Gemelas Olsen son ídolos como religiones, o donde se crean piezas de arte bajo precios anti-morales dejando atrás el romanticismo del arte como fue la obra “For the Love of God” del artista Damien Hirst. Me gusta la idea de poner contenido un contenido real en la forma, no estamos realmente todos un poco cansados de mensajes vacíos?
