TCN summer 2010

I now! I am posting very little these days (and I would like to apologize, but I’m so happy it’s holiday time!). Talking about summer time, here some pictures of TCN’s last pool party. TCN is a Barcelona based swimwear brand, a family business that since 1984 creates fresh and wearable summer pieces as well as underwear. The party took place in a dreamy resort in the Empordá, 15 minutes driving from the Costa Brava, called Mas de Torrent. This five star hotel and spa it’s a favourite of Ferran Adrià and it’s perfect to enjoy the feeling of an 1751 Masia (farmstead) mixed with elegant gardens and modern installations…a typical meditarrean luxury in other words.

Me gustaría disculparme por la falta de posts estos días, pero finalmente es época de vacaciones y de disfrutar fuera del ordenador, no?. Hablando de verano, aquí algunas fotos de la fiesta de TCN del pasado fin de semana. La marca con base en Barcelona, es una empresa familiar que, desde 1984, crea prendas de baño y ropa interior, uniendo comodidad y elegancia. La fiesta fué en Mas de Torrent, un resort de ensueño a 15 minutos de la Costa Brava, en pleno Empordá. Este hotel y spa cinco estrellas, un favorito de Ferrán Adrià, es perfecto para disfrutar del ambiente de una Masía de 1751 a la vez que de modernas instalaciones, jardines y vistas a los viñedos…en fin, un lujo mediterráneo…

Manuel Bolaño (finally!) was the winner of the last 080 Barcelona Fashion Week summer edition, along with Juan Antonio Ával os, a young desinger who worked during 2008 with Bernhard Willhelm, and who presented a playful and positive collection for men full of color and good vibes.

I missed some key shows, like Jan Iú Mès, and sadly Martin Lamothe did not show this time…

Aunque este 080 me he quedado con ganas de ver mas cosas (el día tiene 24h y uno dos manos…), llegué para quedarme con algunos favoritos… Aunque para nada mi estilo, me quedo con unos leggings de Alexis Reyna (muy divertidos), una falda mini plisada de Stefanía Borrás, zapatitos eclécticos de Miriam Ponsa, cualquier cosa de esta colección de Karlotalaspalas y un largo etcétera. Eché de menos a algún clásico como Martin Lamothe (aquí fotos de su colección crusero..) y lamento haberme perdido el show de Jan Iú Mès! En todo caso, ha estado bien los toques de humor, color y buenas vibraciones. Por un buen verano!

Last sunday took place the ModaFAD Prize at the Boquería Market. 10 selected projects of the 36 students that participated were the protagonists of the night, and here are some pics! The winners were Luis Manteiga (F de moda), Mercedes Fernandez (ESDI) and Mikel Colás (F de moda).

El domingo pasado tuvo lugar el desfile del ModaFAD y el galardón ModaFAD a las mejores colecciones de los graduados en el mercado de la Boquería. 10 proyectos seleccionados (de 36) participaron para ganar el premio. Los ganadores: Luis Manteiga de F de moda, Mercedes Fernandez de ESDI y Mikel Colás de F de moda.

Fashion Live – Now Fashion

“I want to see it, buy it, change it, do it now“. This seems to be the attitude we have these days. Now Fashion presents itself as new great option for live shows followers and I appreciate the good quality pictures (something that we miss while following Twitter comments). I can not help to still have my thoughts about how is this “live thing” actually affecting our relationship with fashion…and how we consume information. I guess this is a good option, since a mix of life hd pictures and a later review seems to be a good middle-point.

Lo quiero ver, comprar, cambiar, hacer, ahora”. Esta parece ser la actitud que tenemos estos días. Now Fashion es una nueva revista online que se presenta como una buena opción para los seguidores de los shows en vivo y yo agradezco que tengan buena calidad de imágenes (algo que se pierde muchas veces con los comentarios en vivo en Twitter). No puedo dejar de todas formas de pensar un poco como este “vivo” está realmente afectando nuestra relación con la moda…y en como consumimos la información. Supongo que esta es una buena opción, ya que la mezcla de buenas imágenes en el momento con críticas del desfile mas detalladas después puede ser un buen punto medio.

As some of you already know, I teach fashion illustration at IDEP. The year is over now and I wanted to show you some of the results of the second course. In this case, the assignment was a bit tricky: to create a fashion editorial, but illustrated.

Students should think about all the details, poses, styling, framing, design, concept and then… create it with their own hands. Danae Castro is one of the students that surprised me with this colorful set of illos. What do you think?

Como alguno de vosotros sabeís, soy profesora de ilustración de moda en IDEP. El año se ha acabado y quería mostrarles algunos de los resultados del segundo año. En este caso, la tarea tenía su truco: crear una editorial de moda, pero ilustrada. Los estudiantes deberían pensar en todos los detalles, poses, estilismos, encuadres, diseño, concepto y luego…crearla con sus propias manos!. Danae Castro es una de las estudiantes que me ha sorprendido con este set de ilustraciones llenas de color. Qué les parecen?

July will be all about fashion in Barcelona. For instance, today started The Brandery, (blogger conference included, check The Laundry schedule here). Fashion schools will show their graduates collection, like IDEP‘s next Thursday or IED the same day. And from the 13th to the 15th will be next 080 Barcelona Fashion Week‘s summer edition. It is also incredible hot in this city, so let’s try to mix it all with some drinks and friends at the pool…

Julio es todo moda en Barcelona. De momento hoy comenzó la feria The Brandery (con conferencia de bloggers incluida). Las escuelas muestran con desfiles los diseños de los graduados, como IDEP el próximo jueves o el IED el mismo día. Desde el 13 al 15 es la edición de verano de la próxima 080 Barcelona Fashion Week. También de repente hay muchísimo calor en esta ciudad, así que habrá que mezclarlo con amigos y algo fresco al lado de la piscina…

El Colmillo de Morsa + Changing Room

Here are some pictures of the Changing Room last saturday, featuring designs and lovely details of El Colmillo de Morsa. Jordi Espino (creator of the brand along with Elisabet Vallecillo ) told us a bit more about the mood and some of the last summer edition’s highlights:

“In spite of the Sónar and the great weather, this edition was a good one, with nice company, grateful people, good music and better beer. The space and organization were perfect, so it is completely understandable that everything went just as planned! I would like to point out the work of some colleagues, like Paula Imminich‘s uncomplicated and well finished designs, Georgina Ordinas (always in black, but with some tones of gold and a country-like line), American Perez and Diana Dorado, with a great influence of Miu Miu patterns and her usual good deeds, and last but not least, the bisuterie of Alprès Ski, bellissimo!”

I love the quiet feeling and emphasis on detail of this brand, and the advance for the Summer collection 2011 looks quite promising!

Aquí algunas fotos del último Changing Room, mostrando diseños y preciosos detallles de El Colmillo de Morsa. Jordi Espino (creador de la marca junto a Elisabet Vallecillo nos cuenta un poco el ambiente de esta última edición y algunos destacados:

“Esta edición todo y el Sónar y el buen tiempo que hacia en la calle, no fue floja, como siempre buena compañía, gente agradecida, buena musica, buena cerveza, un espacio genial y una organización de lujo, normal que todo fuera rulado. Por destacar, destaco a Paula Immich (simplicidad, pero sabiendo hacer), Georgina Ordinas (el color negro por exelencia, pero aparecio tejidos de lino muy de campo y dorados), American Perez (en su linea) y Diana Dorado(descosidos, gran influencia en el patronaje de Miu Miu, muy buen hacer y gasas de lineas estampadas combinados con tejidos monocolor), en lo que a indumentaria se refiere, ya que este año domino la bisuteria, sobretodo la se Alprès Ski, es bellissimo!

Me encanta la sensación de tranquilidad que tienen las prendas de esta marca, y el avance de la colección verano 2011 promete mucho!

Me gustan mucho estas fotos arriba, porque me hacen pensar en otro tipo de verano, quizás no el típico de 40ºC de sol y playa! Las fotos son de Jennifer Cox que inaugura su primera exposición en Barcelona mañana en Espacio Infame. A las 20h. (añadí otras fotos que me recuerdan a ese estado tan agradable de siesta veraniega…)

Deux Souliers SS10

If you love shoes, you will love this brand. In the last presentation and special sale of Deux Souliers in Barcelona, there were great shoes, nice people and lots of creativity.

Three different styles to start: a pair of wedges, sandals and moccasins with an add-on detail to change a bit the mood of your outfit. All shoes are made by hand in Alicante, Spain (the spanish shoe paradise) using high quality leather and putting emphasis not only on the design, but also in how comfortable they are. There is also the option to design your own pair, choosing between different heels or colours.

Two women are behind all this, Paula and Nunu (both with a long history in fashion and shoe design) who decided to take the risk and jump to make their dream come true. We like it because the initiative is creative, is sustainable (this shoes will last much longer), is customizable, is personal, and is breath of fresh air in a moment of crisis.

Si te gustan los zapatos, te encantará esta marca. En la última presentación y venta especial de Deux Souliers, me encontré con zapatos preciosos, gente divertida y mucha creatividad.

Tres tipos diferentes de zapatos para empezar: plataformas, sandalias y mocasines con un detalle que se puede poner o quitar para cambiar el estilo. Todos están hechos a mano en Alicante (el paraíso español en el mundo del calzado) y utilizando materiales de primera calidad y poniendo énfasis no sólo en el diseño sino también en la comodidad. Existe la posibilidad de diseñar tu propio par, eligiendo el tipo de tacón, o punta por ejemplo.

Dos mujeres están detrás de este proyecto, Paula y Nunu (las dos con larga trayectoria en el mundo de la moda y el calzado) que decidieron tomar el riesgo y lanzarse a cumplir un sueño. Nos gusta porque es creativo, es sostenible (estos zapatos durarán muchísimo tiempo, es personal, es configurable y es una apuesta en un momento de crisis.

The espadrille is an ecological light shoe made with natural materials: vegetable fiber (hemp, jute, esparto…) for the sole and cotton, linen for the instep, it’s the classic catalan sandal. Carolina Diez Cascón + Tom Sanford

Carolina Diez Cascón (1985) is a restless designer based in Barcelona. While in school, she worked in a local brand. She was also an intern for Jean Paul Gaultier and in 2006, she received the R+FAD prize, which allowed her to prepare an exhibition, showing off her experience in Paris in juxtaposition with the Barcelona style. It was called Barcelona Ohlalá. Her brand, Factoria Rent Me showed it’s new collection in the last Pasarela Abierta Murcia. This time, the designs have a new touch with the colaboration of the american artist Tom Sanford (represented in New York by Leo Koenig Inc) and a critic to the actual loss of meaning and values, inspired most of all by Damien Hirst’s For the Love of God piece or the Olsen Twins phenomenon. I like the idea of introducing some real content into the shape. Aren’t we all getting a little bit tired of empty messages?

Carolina Diez Cascón (1985) es una diseñadora insaciable con base en Barcelona. Todavía en la escuela, trabajó para marcas locales. Trabajó como becaria para Jean Paul Gaultier y en el 2006 recibió el premio R+FAD para preparar una exhibición mostrando su experiencia en París en yuxtaposición con el “Estilo Barcelona”. Se llamó Barcelona Ohlalá. Su marca, Factoria Rent Me mostró su colección en la última Pasarela Abierta de Murcia. Esta vez, los diseños se impregnaron de un nuevo toque con los estampados del artista americano Tom Sanford (Leo Koenig Gallery, NY) y con la crítica a un mundo cada vez mas vacío de contenido. Un mundo carente de valores ni sentido, donde las Gemelas Olsen son ídolos como religiones, o donde se crean piezas de arte bajo precios anti-morales dejando atrás el romanticismo del arte como fue la obra “For the Love of God” del artista Damien Hirst. Me gusta la idea de poner contenido un contenido real en la forma, no estamos realmente todos un poco cansados de mensajes vacíos?
