Inspired by a modern version of Africa, hand in hand with Keith Harings vision, last monday Elena Martin presented the new collection of Martin Lamothe for next spring. The designer spend time in the north of Africa where she experienced the Bereber culture “The more arid the environment of a society, the more vibrant are the colours of its culture and the art of the people that lives there” explains the designer. “That was the start of the palette, inspired by the bereber art, with it’s fluorescent colours.” This influence is also in the visible in the treatment Elena gave to the textiles, like in this short dress, adapting nomad tapestry techniques into fashion. Or the flower inspired silk patchwork, all hand-sewn. “North Africa is all about colour” she adds.

Elena Martin continues with a tradition of artisan and artist collaboration with with these beautiful detailed sculptures, made to three-dimensional prints by the artist  Laura Lauseras (Lusesita). In Africa ceramic is used in as gifts to the gods.The part that I most love of this collection are the black/white garments. The contrast of negative/positive incorporated into the prints, all hand-made. The prints are inspired by the villages, and the ornamental use of the black and white of their inhabitants. The dresses in silk are, one more time, my favourite pieces.In this fine and joyful collection, art, culture and colour goes hand in hand with sober and sophisticated patterns. Tinkling garments that make us dream of faraway but yet close to us lands.

Inspirada en una visión moderna de África, de la mano de la visión de Keith Haring, Elena Martín presentó el pasado lunes su nueva colección de primavera de Martin Lamothe. La diseñadora pasó tiempo en el norte de África, donde estuvo cerca de la cultura Bereber. “Cuanto más árido es el entorno de una sociedad, más vibrantes son los colores de la cultura y el arte de las personas que viven allí” explica la diseñadora. “Éste fué el punto de partida para la paleta, inspirada por el arte bereber, con sus colores fluorescentes”. Esta influencia es palpable en el tratamiento de los textiles, como en este vestido corto, adaptando técnicas de tapiz de culturas nómadas llevándola a la moda. O el patchwork de seda, todo cocido a mano. “El norte de África es todo color” añade.

Elena Martin continúa con la tradición de colaboración entre artesano, diseñador y artista con estas preciosas y detalladas esculturas, que hacen las veces de estampados tridimensionales, obra de la artista Laura Lauseras (Lusesita). Un guiño a la cerámica utilizada por los pueblos africanos como ofrenda a los dioses.

La parte de la colección que más me gusta son las prendas en blanco y negro. El contraste negativo/positivo incorporado en los estampados, todo hecho a mano. Los estampados están inspirados en las aldeas y el uso ornamental del blanco y negro de sus habitantes. Los vestidos de seda son, una vez más, mis piezas favoritas.

En esta alegre y elegante colección, arte, cultura y color van de la mano, junto con un sofisticado y original patronaje. Prendas tintineantes que nos hacen soñar con tierras que quizás no son tan lejanas.
