Viktor & Rolf Fall 99 HC Fashion Show (Full)

Lately I am a bit obsessed with fashion, as the second skin that it is and as dressing as a habit. A daily personal habit, something that involves our complete selves more than anything I would say. Viktor & Rolf are the kind of designers that, in my opinion, really understand this concept. The first video is the performance they did back in 1999, where a model is a reverse matryoshka and the designers dressed and fitted her with bigger and bigger garments. I had the chance to see the garments in the exhibition of the Barbican Museum and I was impressed by the volumes out of proportion.

Ten years later, in the context of last Paris Fashion Week, they presented a similar performance, and the idea confirms it as something timeless. Even though there were commentaries that weren’t flattering about the clothes, for me it’s a great example of an idea that evolves (“This time around, we want to show that something can be both wearable and extreme at the same time. It goes beyond a mere idea; it is literally ready for production.”) , that is more than just a seasonal collection.

Últimamente estoy un poco obsesionada con la moda, como una segunda piel y con la idea del vestirse como un hábito que hacemos cada día, algo que nos incumbe como casi ninguna otra cosa en el mundo. Estos videos son de los diseñadores Viktor & Rolf, de las performances de 1999 y de la última fashion week de Paris. Tuve la suerte de ver las prendas en la exposición en 2008 en Barbican Museum y quedé muy impresionada con el juego de proporciones. Creo que la idea es atemporal, es universal y demuestra que se puede trabajar la moda desde una idea, que puede evolucionar y ser comercial incluso, pero que supone una reflexión mas profunda, en lugar de solamente una colección de temporada.
