As I commented before in this post, I enjoy illustrated campaigns. Many times, using illustrations, you can convey so much more than with a photograph. Illustrations tend to communicate mood, time and style better. “La Petite Robe Noire” continues Guerlain‘s long tradition. The responsible are the french graphic design duo Kuntzel+Deygas, they added a touch of fun to the luxurious cocktail.

Since we started the year with drawn fashion, why not talk about a bit more about the importance of illustration, for example, in beauty advertising! Illustration, cosmetics and perfume were a tandem that went hand in hand until not so long ago. If we take a peek into the archives of emblematic brands we can find a rich heritage of art posters.

In the history of the make-up and perfume brand The House of Guerlain’s for example, art posters forms a fundamental part of its marketing. In its 186 years of existence, illustrated ads have always played an important role . Since the creation of the first lipstick tube Ne m’oubliez pas in 1870, red lips became a key part of the make-up routine. Illustrated advertising presented a strong and sensual woman, something that at that time, perhaps would have been impossible to show in photographs. Lets take for example the works of Lyse Darcy. The illustrator created countless ads for the brand between 1930 and 1950 and established a style for makeup and perfume advertising using illustrations. The illustrations for the red lipstick Rouge Automatique is a good example of the cool classicism of the Art Decó style. A style that not only influenced illustrations and presenting the femme fatale of the interwar period. It also influenced the very appearance of the lipstick, the stick without cover. Women began to paint their lips with one only gesture and one hand, giving birth to the epitome of femininity.

It is also in the 30s when skin products are developed by Guerlain, like tanning lotions, foundations and moisturizing creams. All of these are present in the works of illustrators such as Vassi, Léonard, E. Darcy, Charnotet, Mik and Nikasinovich and René Gruau. Products that we still enjoy today, for example Olivier Echaudemaison’s Rouge Automatique reinterpretation of the iconic lipstick or the flagship perfume Shalimar.

Hemos comenzado este año con ilustración, así que porqué no hacer un repaso por los fantásticos diseños de estos anuncios ilustrados de los años 30s. En sus 186 años de existencia, la casa Guerlain ha presentado sus productos de la mano de algunos de los mejores ilustradores de moda de la época como Vassi, Léonard, E. Darcy, Charnotet, Mik and Nikasinovich o René Gruau.

Anunciando productos como Rouge Automatique en el típico estilo art decó de los años 30s (hoy reinterpretado por Olivier Echaudemaison) presentaban mujeres fuertes e independientes, típicos del tiempo de entreguerras. Anuncios que en el caso de Guerlain se mantienen vigentes por la longevidad de sus productos. La marca sigue apostando por la ilustración, como fué el ejemplo este año con Le Petit Robe Noir, su nuevo perfume. Ojalá veamos más y más este tipo de anuncios!

A year ago, on the terrace of the Hotel de Russie in Rome, we discovered Valentina, a fresh and young perfume from the house Valentino. Today we find that the house has released a new version, this time more mature and sensual. The Danish model, Freja Beha, is once again the star of the campaign and although last season’s campaign was good, personally I much prefer the photos this time.

The packaging is in line with the previous perfume and the scent, created and evolved by master perfumer Olivier Cresp, is an unmistakable designer’s fragrance.

Hace ya un año, en la terraza del Hotel de Russie en Roma descubríamos Valentina, un perfume con un aroma fresco y joven. Hoy nos encontramos con que la casa ha lanzado una nueva versión, esta vez más madura y sensual. La danesa, Freja Beha, es una vez más la protagonista de la campaña y aunque la campaña anterior era buena, personalmente me gustan mucho más las fotos esta vez.

El envase si sigue la línea del anterior y la aroma, creado y evolucionados por el maestro perfumero, Olivier Cresp, es una fragancia de diseño.

Beauty Review: Baby Quasar

The wedding season is about to open and many suddenly remember that maybe spending a little time on skin care for those wedding photos might be a good idea. Extensive air-travel, stressful lifestyles and fatigue makes it necessary to “refresh” our faces, whether by using beauty products or a facial treatment.

As the options are endless, let’s talk about a technology that I find interesting, namely light-therapy. As you all know there are many spas that uses this technology in their treatments. LED technology stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin look fresher and healthier, and at the same time reduces wrinkles. This very technology has been used by NASA and by athletes in order to heal wounds.

Baby Quasar is a device that brings light-therapy to our homes. It works by stimulating the deep layers of the skin. There are two types, the light blue Baby Blue (that reduces acne), and the red Baby Quasar Red, which is the one I’ve been using.

First, it is a device that is easy to use. It moves in circles on the skin, concentrating on problem areas. After trying it for a couple of weeks I noticed a clear difference in brightness and texture of my skin. You need to dedicate it time, though. Each session lasts around 30 minutes and it should be done two to three times a week. But self-massage is relaxing and can be used as an excuse to wind down.

I also believe that the Baby Quasar is interesting for those who wish to switch to natural products. It is clear that many cosmetics contain ingredients that are not exactly green or do tests on animals, so naturally many people choose to limit their usage of said products. Mechanical treatment such as light-therapy is definitely a good complement to plant-based creams.

It is important to test the device on your hand before you begin any treatment as it may be that your skin is too sensitive. It is also important not to look at the lights of the apparatus since they can damage the eyes. But more than these caveats, the Baby Quasar has few inconveniences.

In short, the Baby Quasar is veritable “home-spa” very easy to use and which gives you a feeling of warmth and relaxation. The results can clearly be seen after a couple of weeks of use, leaving you with a more smoother (or even) and radiant skin. I think the device is interesting to use as maintenance after cosmetic treatments or in addition to natural products (for example, the green tea serum from Baby Quasar to be used before treatment has impressive results). If you are impatient of nature or have a tight schedule, this product may not be for you. It demands considerable time, since light has to pass smoothly through the different layers of the skin in order to be properly absorbed. The cutting-edge technology also comes with a price, costing around 340 €, but then we’re talking about a long term investment that more than definitely is worth the price.

Se abre la temporada de bodas y son muchas las que de repente recuerdan que para la foto estaría bien cuidar un poco la piel. El viajar mucho en avión, el estrés, el cansancio o sencillamente un estilo de vida poco sano…hacen que necesitemos “refrescar” la cara, tanto sea con productos de belleza o un tratamiento facial.

Y como las opciones son casi infinitas, empezaremos hablando de un tratamiento que encuentro interesante. Se trata de la foto-terapia. Mucho sabreís que existen muchísimos centros de estética que lo utilizan para sus tratamientos. La tecnología LED estimula la producción de colágeno y elastina, hace que la piel luzca más fresca y sana, además de reducir las arrugas. Esta misma tecnología ha sido usada por la NASA y en el mundo del deporte para curar heridas.

Baby Quasar es un aparato de foto-terapia casero que funciona estimulando las capas profundas de la piel. Existen dos tipos: con luz azul Baby Blue (para reducir el acné), y la roja, el Baby Quasar Red, que es el que he probado.
En primer lugar, se trata de un producto fácil de manejar. Se mueve en círculos sobre la piel, concentrándose en las zonas problemáticas. Después de probarlo un par de semanas ya se nota una diferencia en el brillo y textura de la piel. Se debe dedicar tiempo, eso sí. Cada sesión son alrededor de 30 minutos y hay que hacerlo de dos a tres veces por semana. Pero en sí el masaje es relajante y puede utilizarse como excusa para tener un poco de tiempo para uno.

Creo además que el Baby Quasar es interesante para aquellas personas que quieren pasarse a productos naturales. Está claro que muchos cosméticos tienen componentes que no son exactamente ecológicos o que hacen test en animales y son muchas las personas que deciden limitar su uso. Este tipo de tratamiento mecánico es un buen complemento para cremas de origen vegetal por ejemplo.

Es importante hacer una prueba en tu mano antes de comenzar tu tratamiento, ya que puede ser que tu piel sea demasiado sensible. Es importante no mirar las luces del artefacto, ya que pueden dañar los ojos. Pero más que estas advertencias, el Baby Quasar no tiene contraindicaciones.

En resumen, un “spa-en-casa”, extremadamente fácil de usar, que deja una suave sensación de calor y relajación. Los resultados se ven después de un par de semanas de uso, como una piel más homogénea y radiante. Creo que puede ser interesante para utilizar como mantenimiento después de tratamientos estéticos o como complemento para productos naturales (el sérum de té verde de Baby Quasar para usar antes del tratamiento, por ejemplo, tiene resultados impresionantes).

Si eres impaciente o tienes una agenda muy ajustada, posiblemente este producto no sea para tí. Demanda bastante tiempo, ya que la luz tiene que traspasar la dermis suavemente para que pueda ser absorbida correctamente. Y toda la tecnología viene con un precio, ya que cuesta alrededor de 340€, aunque se trata de una inversión a largo plazo.

I briefly mentioned something last December, and at last, here it is: the new video for the Very Irrésistible Electric Rose Givenchy Fragrance starring Liv Tyler. She does an electronica/rock cover of INXS’ I Need you Tonight, produced in Los Angeles by David Sitek (David Bowie, Beck, Scarlett Johansson) and it’s the first time she is singing for the brand.

So… surprise! For this launch I was invited along with 9 other bloggers from around the world to share how this tune and fragrance inspired us and the result are these photos I did. I was very into INXS and I always thought of I Need You Tonight as great tune, so it wasn’t that difficult to find the mood. The pictures had to do with the lyrics of course, and the idea of “an electric rose”

Como ya habíamos comentado en diciembre, Liv Tyler ha hecho una colaboración muy especial para la nueva fragancia de Givenchy Very Irrésistible Electric Rose. Por primera vez, la actriz canta para la marca, y lo hace con un cover de I Need you Tonight de INXS, producido en Los Angeles por David Sitek (David Bowie, Beck, Scarlett Johansson).

Y luego, la sorpresa: Para ser parte de este lanzamiento, fuí invitada con otros 9 bloggers de alrededor del mundo para compartir como nos inspiró la fragrancia y la canción y aquí hay algunas fotos que hice. Me gustaba bastante INXS en su día, y me gustaba I Need You Tonight, así que no fué tan difícil encontrar el estado de ánimo para hacerlas. Las fotos tienen que ver con las letras por supuesto, y la idea de la “rosa eléctrica”.

Valentina x Valentino – el perfume

Perfumery is a subtle art that integrates the body and the nose like no other. I must confess that even though I already have my share of perfume bottles on my bathroom shelf, I was not completely aware of the power of the scents and the difference between the elements altogether. Last Saturday I attended the presentation of the new perfume from Valentino in Rome.

In a very ‘educational’ presentation, we were explained techniques for recognizing the different elements that comprise their new perfume. The aroma of the jasmine, orange blossom and tuberose, for example, or the white truffle that gives the fragrance freshness, or the touch of strawberry wich makes it a bit sweet. White flowers, cedar (mmm), amber and vanilla are the other elements. It took them three years to develop this new perfume, a creation of Alberto Morillas (responsible of 90′s-2000′s hits like CK One, Carolina Herrera 212 or Kenzo Flower) and Oliver Cresp.

Ingredients

For a complete inmersion into the Valentino universe, we were invited to an exclusive visit at the Valentino haute-couture atelier at the Palazzo Mignanelli. An unforgettable experience.

We got to see a small group working on the corset of a dress, the veil of a wedding dress (an amazing wedding dress that we saw standing on one of the tables). We also got to see the dress that inspired the bottle: a short blue cocktail dress with a big white flower, built and shaped by hand, on the front.

La Maison Valentino is known for their flowery embroidery, and red dresses and we also caught a glimpse of that at the showroom. The dress that Jacqueline Onassis wore at her wedding, the one that Marisa Berenson wore in the photo below or the one that Julia Robert wore for the Oscars 2001 were all on display as pieces of history.

This heritage is present in the design of the bottle, with the flowers and the detail of traditional perfumery on the top. I personally like this soft fragrance, because even when it’s a conservative and luxurious statement, it has a bit of an edge which makes it more modern. As Tim Blanks once said “haute couture for the Twilight generation”.♥

El arte del perfume incluye el cuerpo y el olfato como ningún otro. Confieso que incluso teniendo mi colección de botellas en mi armario, no tenía mucha idea de la diferencia entre los aromas y como reaccionan todos juntos. El pasado sábado estuvimos en la presentación del nuevo perfume de Valentino en Roma y una presentación muy didáctica, pudimos reconocer los diferentes elementos de este nuevo perfume. El aroma del jazmín, el azahar, el nardo por ejemplo, o la trufa blanca que le dá un toque de frescura, o el punto de fresa salvaje que lo hace más dulce. Flores blancas, cedro (me encanta), ámbar y vanilla son los otros elementos. Les tomó tres años desarrollar este perfume, una creación de Alberto Morillas (responsable de hits de los 90s como CK One, Carolina Herrera 212 o Kenzo Flower) y Oliver Cresp.

Para una completa inmersión en el universo Valentino, fuimos invitados a una exclusiva visita al atelier de alta costura en el Palazzo Mignanelli. Una experiencia innolvidable. Había un grupo pequeño trabajando en un corset para un vestido o el velo de un vestido de boda (un vestido precioso que estaba allí mismo sobre una de las mesas) y en el centro, el vestido de la colección invierno 2010 que inspiró la botella, un vestido cocktail corto en azul con una flor enorme en blanco, cocida y esculpida a mano.

Scents

La casa Valentino es conocida por sus encajes de flores y vestidos rojos, y pudimos tener un vistazo de esto en el showroom. El vestido que usó Jacqueline Onassis en su boda, el que tiene Marisa Berenson en esta foto, o el de Julia Roberts en los Oscars de 2001 estaban colgados como pequeños pedazos de historia.

Este legado está presente en el diseño de la botella, con las flores y el detalle de perfumería tradicional arriba. Personalmente me gustó esta fragancia suave, que incluso cuando es bastante lujosa y conservadora, tiene un toque que la hace más moderna. Como Tim Blanks dijo, “alta costura para la generación Twilight”.♥

Pivoine Flora L’Eau de Parfum by L’Occitane

You might remember the review of the Pivoine Flora products. Ttoday I would like to present you the parfum. I absolutely love this fragrance. I like that it has a floral and delicate scent and even though it wears well throughout the day, it is not too strong. The collection includes a perfumed beauty and hand cream and a sweat soap with the shape of the Pivoine. The perfume costs 45€. More info here.

Seguramente se acuerdan de esta reseña que hice sobre los productos Pivoine Flora de L’Occitane. Este verano estuve usando el perfume y tengo que decir que m encanta! Es mi favorito sin duda. Me gusta el aroma floral y delicado. Incluso cuando aguanta todo el día, no es demasiado fuerte. La colección incluye una creama de belleza y otra de mano perfumadas, así como un jabón con la forma de la peonia. El perfume vale 45€ y se puede comprar aquí.

Tutorial de maquillaje – Pivoine Flora

Os había contado hace unas semanas sobre la nueva línea de maquillaje de L’Occitane, Pivoine Flora. Hoy les muestro estos vídeos, con imágenes de la línea completa y más información!. Las protagonistas son Christelle del blog de belleza 30ansdebeaute y Magalí de beaute-blog. Las bailarinas del video representan el símbolo de la marca, la bailarina, que tiene que ver con el movimiento natural de la flor peonia en el campo…un twist romántico. Christelle comenta que el maquillaje tiene perfume, lo cierto es que para mí es muy suave. Mas información aquí.

Finalmente, la respuesta! L’Angelique es una línea de productos naturales de la marca francesa L’Occitane en Provence. La línea, que está disponible en tiendas a partir de hoy 18 de mayo en todo España, está hecha a base de la angélica, una hierba que suele tener un uso medicinal (en la edad media se creía que curaba la peFste) y que tiene excelentes propiedades calmantes. La línea L’Angelique consta de una crema hidratante €33, un fluido radiante SPF 15 €26, contorno de ojos €20, limpiador y tónico €15. Como les adelantaba antes, he probado la crema y el contorno de ojos. Básicamente, la crema dá una sensación instantánea de frescura y la piel mejora notablemente. No exagero, es una de mis cremas favoritas! Tiene una textura muy liviana y el aroma es sencillamente fantástico. Puedes visitar esta página para saber más sobre L’Angelique.

Esta foto tiene que ver con el color…verde! En la naturaleza hay muchas variedades de este color. Elegí el verde del césped, porque es un aroma que me gusta mucho. El olor del césped recién cortado es uno de mis favoritos!

Si bien en productos de belleza prefiero que no tengan escencia, en este caso, la sensación que da su aroma es similar…
