Perfect weather yesterday at the Way Out West 2013 and one of those bucolic sunny afternoons in the park that matched the emotional tone of Bat for Lashes perfectly. Listening to Natasha Khan’s music is all about connecting with deeper feelings and listening to her live and in this setting just left me with a good vibe. Dressed in a colourfully printed jumpsuit, Khan owned the stage in a sublime performance.
As always with these kinds of festivals, you have contrasting experiences and you find yourself immersed in a completely different atmosphere if you walk only 200 m, like the one created by the very energetic Grimes. At 18h45 you could see people rushing to watch the Canadian explode on stage. Her extraordinary and creative sound always charges you with great energy.
Way out West, always a very eclectic festival presents something for everyone (well, maybe not). To name two very different artists, both originally from Gothenburg (and who in the 90s played in the same band) you’ll find Håkan Hellström and The Knife who close the day.
Another perfomer and definitely one to watch (also Swedish but from the east coast) was Sibille Attar.
Cat Power, Little Boots, JAMES BLAKE, PUBLIC ENEMY, Disclosure and ALICIA KEYS are some of today’s big names.
